And the checkered flag goes to..........
As I continue to read, reflect and listen to our class conversations I begin to think that our current education structure is more like a race track. Over time nothing really ever changes..except for how fast (technology) you can go...We continue to race in a circle...take pit stops...and finish (or not) the race...How fast (or slow) were we this time?

What is Leadership and are we sleepwalking....
This past weekend I attend a leadership conference with students that was entitled, "Get Up Stand Up LEAD".
The conference chair noted that Leadership...
-is concerned with effecting positive change on behalf of others and society;
-is collaborative;
-is a process rather than a position;
-should be value based;
-is for everyone, all students (not just those who hold formal leadership positions) are potential leaders.
Would you agree?
During one of the keynotes, the speaker addressed the issue of social networking and commented that many of us are sleepwalking through life because of facebook, twitter,etc. I thought that was an interesting comment, give our recent discussions on the use of technology.

Recent Article: Online Social Media Tools
I recently received my monthly newsletter from AFT and noticed an article entitled, "Educators and unions harness power of online social media tools".
The article quotes 2 college professors who believe that "one of the greatest benefits of social media is the ability to share resources and collaborate with peers they've never met".
A high school librarian described Twitter as the "TV guide summary of whats going on and coming up." The librarian integrates twitter and the library website/blog to give people detailed information on upcoming events.
The article also provided info for online safety tiny.cc/AFT_technology

Im the Line Leader!
This past weekend I was with my daughter when she ran in front of me and said, "I'm the line leader!". When I tried to walk past her, she said that I had to follow her...Even though she had no idea where I was going...
I started thinking about leadership and whether or not "running to the front" automatically makes that person the leader of a group.

Technology....Fear and Love
Technology...Technology....Technology...
The word that people fear and love....
We (colleges) continually focus on registering students online, creating online class schedules etc. and yet many of our students and their families do not have computer/online access at home. I guess the issue of "access" should be discussed on a different day...
As I discover the world of blogging...does PITS have a place in online communication??
